Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am starting a new performance art project titled The Go-Between, in which I will be playing the role of artist-as-matchmaker. You might think of it as a sort of social sculpture, or perhaps a collaging of people.

For this reason I am looking for participants who are willing to meet a potential partner through a matchmaker. Perhaps it will ultimately end in a serious relationship or perhaps not. If not, I hope participants will at the very least have had a pleasurable adventure in the art making process.

My pool of potential matches will come by word of mouth from friends and friends of friends. The basis of trust will stem from my good will, discerning eye, and innate desire to bring people together for the sake of happiness.

I have long been interested in exploring the famous gap between art and life, and this seems to be a particularly good time to take on again this endeavor as a conceptual performative artwork, as the ongoing pandemic has made it increasingly difficult for people to meet each other.

If you think you might want to participate or know anyone that might be please have them contact thego-between@emergencyeyewash.org.

This work will take place under the aegis of Emergency Eyewash, a conceptual label for collaborations involving myself and Barry Schwabsky, as well as signs and symbols, a contemporary art space grounded in performance. The performance will involve, among other things, my spending initial interview time with each participant through Zoom followed by an in-person meet-up at the signs and symbols gallery on Forsyth Street, which will be documented, with each pair of people I believe to be compatible partners.

Thanks for any consideration here!

Stay healthy — with warmest regards,
Carol Szymanski
