Commissioned by Northern Trust for the Expo Chicago VIP Dinner at Mana Contemporary on September 9, 2015, Sing for Our Supper was made in defiance of all invitations for artists to present work with high stakes and little to no compensation under the guise of a great opportunity. Northern Trust gave each of the ten, highly vetted artists a $200 budget to create original artwork, with a required take-home element, for a dining table seating art industry VIPs. Partners and families were not invited to the free dinner provided, which was only participation incentive. Orrico took this opportunity to generate a new work for his own repertoire in which he consumed the stipend for his own sustenance by feeding his family typical “high-end” foods, paying a credit card minimum balance and then buying a bottle of whiskey and some marijuana.
